Definition of A Veteran

A veteran is someone who, at one point in one's life, wrote a blank check
made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and
including my life."

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no
longer understand it. (In no way am I implying that Sej has a problem with soldiers as individuals, she respects and stands behind their decision to enlist. What she is against is the war and the administrations foreign policy regarding Iraq. I, got this little quote in an email and thought it was fitting to my point.)

The 4,000+ brave men and women who have answered the final roll call in the sky made this vow, that they will allow the United States of America to cash that check in order to protect the freedoms that we all hold dear.

I just read an associated press article that discussed a speech given by McCain where he related that both Gen Petraeus and bin Laden have called Iraq the central battle ground between the United States and Al Qaida. Even if we call into question the motives for starting the war in Iraq, isnt it better that we have armed and trained soldiers fighting the terrorists, instead of allowing them to target innocent civilians and families? I think increased media coverage of the war has humanized the american warrior, someone designed to bear a burden that not many could carry, calling society to question their [the soldiers] actions and bringing their somber, personal ends into the publics eye.

Many forget that those 4,000+ individuals were part of a volunteer army, no one forced them to enlist.
